Best American Rock and Roll Band of All Time

I'm not stirrin' up the pot this time. Barry is. Rules: American, Band (not solo). Celine might agree with his conclusion. I don't understand how Ween didn't make the list...

REM is certainly on my top 3. Hmmm let's see - American bands. How about Red Hot Chili Peppers and Aerosmith? I'm talking early, drug induced Aerosmith. Not the rehabbed, power ballad Aerosmith of late. Heck even REM liked early Aerosmith. If you haven't heard REM's version of Toys in the Attic you haven't lived.

Aerosmith is up there. I saw The Cult open for Aerosmith in Köln. The British soliders in the audience where there for The Cult and the Germans were there for Aerosmith. No one was disappointed, I can tell you. Love-em-or-hate-em, I think The Dead, The Allman Bros, and The Velvet Underground all deserve consideration, too -- you hear their influences in bands even today. And, maybe, New York Dolls as a sleeper? Never could hold the title, but they were influential in ways other bands were not.

Amen...amen...amen...Does it get any more rockin' than "Back in the Saddle Again"?

On the RHCP front, too many greats to name. Play the Chili Peppers so the public can ROCK!!!

I would also throw Superchunk in the mix, but they've never had any Casey Casem notoriety so they might not fly with the mainstream cats.

NYD certainly have an argument...but do you think David Johansen might have blown their chances with the whole Buster Poindexter thing?

Ooooh, yes..the Velvet Underground...

I can't tell you how many times I've heard musicians say of other bands "Man, they sound like The Pixies!", or "Man, they're trying to sound like The Pixies!" Influential -- maybe even moreso than Nirvana.
