Hutterites get it

The Hutterites came to my attention this morning in a segment on NPR Morning Edition, the gist of which is summarised by AP in The Guardian (summarised spelled according to British practices in honour of their fine paper and language). OK. So, what's up with these Hutterites. Turns out, that in the 16th century, some Swiss bible scholars got around the table to discuss the bible, and concluded:

  1. Baptizing babies is not biblical.

  2. The Bible requires the separation of church and state.

  3. A Christian should not wield the sword (pacifist)

  4. The Lord's Supper is symbolic of the suffering of Jesus, and should be done in remembrance of him.

You don't have to be much of a bible scholar to come to these conclusions with even the most cursory skim of the New Testament. I particularly like conclusion two. That's why I put it between the strong tags... I think the gummint should post these Four Commandments in churches. Good luck to the Hutterites and all of their Anabaptist brothers and sisters out there. Southern Baptist is hell and gone away from Anabaptist, but you're going to have to find that one out by yourself or in a different post.
